Haunted House In Sas-van-Gent (Belgium, border Netherlands)

In 1905, Saint-Gobain ordered Jozef August Jacobs, who was an architect, to build a glass factory and surrounding houses, including an Executive Board house known as Sas-van-Gent De Villa.

At the time it was built, the border between Belgium and the Netherlands didn’t exist, but if you would go there now, it’s right next to the border (I think about 30km or something??)

Jacobs became head pf the factory and the first owner of the villa, living there with his mother, wife, and also his five children. About five years later, he build a phosphate factory.

However, life soon took a turn for the worst. World War I began. Holland was a neutral country with huge electric fences on the borders.

Several stories about the villa are associated with people and the electric fence that was closest to the villa. . Supposedly, a German soldier looking to desert the army was electrocuted in or outside the house. Another story speaks of a small guy who escaped from the Germans by using a barrel between the electric wires.

The Jacobs family left town and moved to Gent in 1927. A rich man named Bel took over his position as new head of the glass factory and moved into the villa.

He moved out again shortly after, saying that he thought the villa was too big.The last owner was a scouting group who used the place as their home, but abondoned it in 1951. It was empty for about forty-six years.

Some people believe that the house his haunted by the spirits of those who died on the property including the electrocuted German soldier and three Canadian soldiers who were blown up in a tank outside the house.

Visitors of the villa have reported strange feelings, shadows, footsteps, temperature drops and having objects thrown around.

Cell phones suddenly had no service, watches stopped ticking, doors slammed shut and curious visitors captured strange mist on their cameras.

Whatever the truth is, we’ll never know. The house doesn’t stand there anymore, as it has been demolished due to the bad state it was in. Since it was demolished, the haunted house of Sas van Gent has turned into a legend.
